The holidays have arrived! What sweeter way to kick it off than with the brand new movie, “The Man Who Invented Christmas, “ hitting theaters, November 22nd! If you’re looking for a fun way to kick off the Christmas season then pack up the kids, get some hot cocoa and head to a theater near you to watch the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters from, “A Christmas Carol.” The film shows how Charles Dickens mixed real-life inspirations with his imagination to create timeless characters that led to the beloved story that became a Christmas favorite. You’ll enjoy the stellar cast that includes Christopher Plummer from The Sound of Music and  Dan Stevens from Beauty and the Beast and Downton Abbey in this delightful upcoming family movie.

I’m especially looking forward to this movie because The Christmas Carol is literally one of our favorite movies. In our family, it is a tradition for us to see the Muppets Chrismas Carol at our favorite movie house. I let her see it in her jammies than afterward we get hot chocolate and drive around the neighborhood looking at Christmas light and listening to carols.

One of our other traditions is giving to a cause such as Operation Christmas Child through the Samaritans Purse. It’s a wonderful way to teach our children about the sweetness of giving. If you’re looking for an opportunity to give back check out their ministry.

Okay here is the really cool part! Thanks to Grace Hill Media I have a fantastic giveaway for you Christmas Lovers!

Advent Ideas! How About An Advent Tree

I love love love our Advent Tree! This is a fairly new tradition that we started about two years ago. In addition to our real tree in the house, we have an additional tree on the porch that reminds us each day when we enter and leave our home why we we’re celebrating Christmas. This tree doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it has little pockets with numbers on them for each day leading up to Christmas. Inside those pockets are scriptures that we bring into the house to read during our lighting the Advent candles.

If you want to try this fun tradition, I suggest buying an inexpensive artificial tree big or small that you can put somewhere in your home. Let the kids find the scriptures and write the book of the Bible and verse on a slip of paper to put in little envelopes around the tree. I found my pockets at Michaels, but you can easily create them yourself. Every day let one of the kids pull out the scripture to bring into read for breakfast or dinner.

Advent Ideas! Try These DIY Advent Boxes

One of our Advent traditions is me hiding these Advent boxes I made for Anya a few years back. Basically, these were just different cardboard shaped boxes I got from Michaels that I painted red and green. Then I cut out Christmas scrap book paper and pasted it on top with stick on numbers and Christmas embellishments. She loves them! I put little trinkets in them and hide them around the house every day until Christmas!
