Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of reading the bible with my grandmother. My gram was a devout believer in Christ and a shining example of how a Christian should behave. When I was little at night we would sit in her bed and do questions and answers in this bible she had. Interesting enough it is something that has always stuck with me, even when I wasn’t always proud of my own life. In my core and foundation was the knowledge of the importance of spiritual wisdom. Years later with my own daughter, I often go back to those cozy nights in bed with my gram as I read to my almost 4 year old the stories of the bible. Our children’s earliest impressions are vital. As a mom I want to pass down my passion for Christ. We pray, read the bible, and discuss the teachings of Jesus all the time. The one thing I haven’t been able to do is to find a church in the area I live in.
The church I grew up in Pittsburgh was a simple church with a fierce love for God and eachother. Each time I visit home I make it a point to attend church with my mother. My grandmother went there, my grandfather became a minister there, and three of my uncle’s were ministers there. I missed the fellowship of church. I attended churches in the area and was dismayed with certain aspects that I couldn’t agree with. I was also limited since I didnt own a car.
Let me share with you how God is always working. In the fall my daughter was taking ballet, I was rushing her to class and this woman stops me and gives me a flyer for a church. She said, ” I don’t know why but I felt that I should give this to you.” I looked at this flyer every now and then and although it was close to my home I needed a car to get there. On New Year’s Eve God blessed me with a car! What a way to start out the New Year! Praise Jesus. The first thing I did was dig out that flyer and attended church.
Everyone was so welcoming, the sermon was wonderful and I knew God had called me there. As a single mom it is so important to have a church family that can provide you with support, love, and fellowship. I praise God for all that he has already shown me he is capable of doing in my life in 2010. If we are obedient and trust God nothing is impossible.
God Bless and Happy New Year!
