Need a Dose of Romance? Don’t Miss The Newly Released Movie on January 19th, “Forever My Girl!”

I’ve grown accustomed as a single mom to being asked the questions, “Do you date?” Well, the answer is no I do not. But, it isn’t because I don’t believe in love. Quite the contrary! I absolutely believe in love and know that falling in love can happen on any given day. But, I also know that love comes in many forms and my greatest love is my daughter Anya. I always tell single moms that while they are waiting for the love of their life remember there is an abundance of love to experience in the meantime. What greater love is there than the love of your child? The time I spend with my daughter is precious and I try to find ways to create memories that will reside in our heart and mind.

Here are five ways how I spend the time with the love of my life:

  1. Traveling! We are road trip girls! Our best memories have been when we spontaneously hit the road with a couple bags, some snacks, and the radio blasting. Just recently we spent the week before Christmas in the Bahamas and had a wonderful and memorable time!
  2. Long Walks: Our best conversations happen when we’re taking long walks. In our busy world, our walks have become a way for us to unwind, talk about our day and get some fresh air together.
  3. Cooking: I’ve been cooking with Anya ever since she was a wee little one and it’s always a fun way to connect and do one thing we both love…eat!
  4. Throw a Party! We love a good party in this house. Planning, prepping and decorating is a fun way for us to share our creativity, have a lot of laughs and it allows me to better get to know my daughter’s friends.
  5. Good Old Cuddling! Nothing beats cuddling up with my kid. She’s 11 and growing like a weed so any cuddling I can get in I’m on it!

Okay, with all this being said, I’m still a sucker for unrequited love and I’m always up for a good romance! So, if you’re looking for a romantic story that warms your heart, don’t miss  Forever My Girl released in theaters on January 19’th.

Forever My Girl tells the story of music super-star Liam Page (Alex Roe) who left his bride, Josie (Jessica Rothe), at the altar choosing fame and fortune instead. However, Liam never got over Josie, his one true love, nor did he ever forget his Southern roots in the small community where he was born and raised. When he unexpectedly returns to his hometown for the funeral of his high school best friend, Liam is suddenly faced with the consequences of all that he left behind.  Forever My Girl is an uplifting romantic film about second chances.

Don’t Miss Tomorrow’s Release of the Heartwarming Movie, “Goodbye Christopher Robin,”

Don’t miss this heartwarming story about  A.A. Milne, an author, and veteran of The Great War suffering from PTSD who was inspired by his son to create the delightful stories of Winnie the Pooh and the characters who have come to reside on our bookshelves that we’ve read over and over again.

Celebrate Your Dog’s Purpose!

Take the Kids to See, “A Dog’s Purpose,” on  January 27th!

It’s amazing how dogs have an ability to love you unconditionally. I had no plans on getting a pup, matter of fact I was completely against adding another responsibility to my already overflowing plate. But, after some coercing for years from my daughter, I ended up making one of the best decisions of my life… our dog Winter! Winter an adorable Shorkie has stolen my heart and has made our family complete. I can’t imagine her not cuddling up to me every day. Winter is the first one to greet me at the door, she’s loyal, fun, and is the sweetest addition to our life. We had no idea  what we were missing before her little paws trotted into our life.  Look at this face!

I’m so excited about the January 27th release of “A Dog’s Purpose.” A heartwarming movie the whole family can enjoy and a sweet tribute to the pets that add love to our families.  Told from the perspective of “everybody’s best friend” the film highlights the importance of familial bonds, and the unconditional love we have for our best friends.

One of the coolest things about, “A Dog’s Purpose, ” is their partnership with the non-profit Best Friends Animal Society, and photos of dogs available for adoption. You can also add your dog to the website! Check out the trailer below and mark your calendars for this touching film. Oh and go give your pup an extra hug!

Parents Guide to Scary Movies- Tips From Focus on The Family Experts

With THE CONJURING 2 in theaters this Friday, it’s only natural to think about scary movies. For some of us, the thoughts are about avoiding them at all costs, but for others there’s excitement at thinking about getting a good scare from our theater seats.

But what about our kids? Especially at younger ages, they can be truly disturbed if they happen to see something onscreen that frightens them. It may not even be a well-made supernatural horror film like THE CONJURING 2 – certainly not for pre-teens – but could be something they see in one of their favorite cartoons that raises fears.

What can you do as a parent when this happens to your son or daughter? Here are a few tips from the experts at Focus on the Family:

  • The first thing you need to do is sit down with your child and give them the chance to discuss the film openly. Ask them what they saw, what they thought about it, and how it made them feel. Whatever you do, don’t make light of their fears or dismiss their feelings as silly or immature.
  • Once their emotions have been aired, assure your son or daughter that this was only a story, just like the imaginary tales they may have seen in picture story books. Bad things weren’t happening to real people – they were actors playing a pretend game, like they and their friends do.
  • Reassure your child that you, as their parent, are dedicated to protecting them. Let them know that it is one of your most important jobs – ensuring they feel safe and are safe. Reinforce that message with plenty of hugs.
  • If you are a Christian family, you can explain that God has promised to be with them at all times, even in the midst of danger. Open up the Bible and show them the passages where God promises never to leave us or forsake us (Genesis 28:15; Deuteronomy 31:6, 8; Joshua 1:5; Hebrews 13:5). Pray with them about the scary movie and their fears, and encourage them to pray on their own when they become frightened at night. If it seems appropriate, you can also practice some coping techniques with them, like deep breathing relaxation exercises or visualizing a happy place.
  • One last thought: it is definitely not a good idea for you to sleep in your child’s room or to let them sleep in your bed. That will only reinforce the behavior you’re trying to eliminate, encouraging them to act helpless and dependent. So whatever happens, make it clear that you will not be sleeping with them. Instead, find some other way to make them feel secure, like turning on a nightlight for a while or letting them take a special stuffed animal to bed.

Come to think of it, if you go see THE CONJURING 2 and you’re still a little scared even after the credits roll, feel free to take your favorite stuffed animal to bed with you, too.

Need Some Inspiration? See The New Movie Release “Greater” The Story of Brandon Burlsworth

Greater one-sheet

With 2016 underway we can all use a little inspiration to reminds us that nothing is impossible when our faith is rooted in Christ, we have a dream and a passion to work towards making our dream a reality. You won’t want to miss,“Greater,”  the story of Brandon Burlsworth, the unlikely star football player at the University of Arkansas whose inspiring life and legacy taught family, friends and fans about the greater purposes and lasting impact of a life lived for God.

Brandon Burlsworth (newcomer Chris Severio) had a dream, to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but wasn’t considered even good enough to play Division I football. That didn’t deter Brandon. Instead fueled by faith, determination and the support of his older brother Marty (Neal McDonough) and his struggling single mom, Barbara (Leslie Easterbrook),  he takes a huge risk by walking on to the team in 1994. He succeeds in the face of staggering odds, and by the end of his college career, Burlsworth was not only a star player in the SEC, but he was also a 1st Team All-American.  He was then taken as an early pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Then tragedy hits and the real test of faith comes that no one saw coming.

Take a look at the trailer for, “Greater,” and make a date to see it with your friends, family, or church on January 29th.

Need Inspiration? See WOODLAWN!

I had the pleasure of being able to view the movie, “WOODLAWN,” before it hit movie theaters last Friday. This was by far one of the most inspiring, touching and exhilarating films I’ve seen in 2015. If you are a football fan you will love this movie, if you are a Christian you will love this movie, if you just need to be inspired you will love this movie…YOU WILL JUST LOVE THIS MOVIE! From Pure Flix (GOD’S NOT DEAD, DO YOU BELIEVE?), Roma Downey and Mark Burnett (THE BIBLE, SON OF GOD) and the Erwin Brothers (MOM’S NIGHT OUT, OCTOBER BABY) comes WOODLAWN, a high school football drama and a remarkable true story that happened in the early 1970s in Birmingham, Alabama when racism and hate ran rapid. This movie shows us that when a  spiritual awakening takes place love and forgiveness replaces hate and anger. It reminds you that when people bond in love and the unity of Christ they can overcome any obstacles, hate simply does not stand a chance. Something we all need to reminded of in this day and age.

The movie centers around the Woodlawn football team players who are struggling not only on the football field, but with one another. Until one day at football camp when they are introduced to Hank, a sports chaplain who ends up practically converting the whole football team into accepting Christ. This spiritual awakening has a ripple effect that is beautiful to watch as you see barriers being broken, respect growing, and sportsmanship at it’s finest. At the heart of the movie is Tony Nathan (Caleb Castille) a black star running back who’s humble nature is absolutely endearing to watch. As the two rivaling teams get ready to battle at the packed stadium of 42,000 fans you realize just how significant this moment in time was to a city who had been ravaged by racism and hate. This is a Christian film about hope and faith, but anyone can relate to this storyline because it crosses all divides.  I was blown away by this film and it will definitely be in my movie library.  If there is one movie you see this year, WOODLAWN should be the one! Take a look at the trailer and plan to see it soon!
