A Feel Good Movie About Our Faithful Furry Friends!
Premiering in Theaters, August 8th
I’m so excited about the premiere of Dog Days, on August 8th because there is nothing sweeter than an endearing film about the most loving animals on earth…our dogs! If you have a furry friend then you know that dogs are seriously the kindest, most gentle and faithful companion around. Dog Days is a hilarious and heartfelt ensemble comedy that follows the lives of multiple dog owners and their beloved fluffy pals. When these human and canine’s paths start to intertwine, their lives begin changing in ways they never expected. This film is all about the joy dogs bring into our lives and what they can teach us about treating people with kindness and compassion which is what everyone needs to do a little more of these days.
Our pooch Winter, an adorable Shorkie came into our life about three years ago. Mind you I wasn’t keen on getting a dog. Dogs are great, but being a single mom with work, a kid, and a lot of busy going on, I can’t say that getting a dog was on my priority list. But, it was a vision my daughter had for our family and she worked very diligently in making it a reality. Finally, she and mom beat me into submission and along came Winter!
Winter won me over day one. Words literally can’t adequately express the joy our dog has brought into our life. Her faithfulness, unconditional love, compassion, protection, and kindness is mind-blowing. Winter loves us well! I can’t imagine our lives without Winter by our side. When we are sick she will literally lay next to us and not move. One day, I had a stomach bug and she laid in bed with me for hours, finally doubled over I had to let her go outside. She ran out did her business, and quickly ran back in toward the bedroom as if to say, “Come on, I know you’re sick, let’s get back to bed.”
I’m amazed at how perceptive she is about our emotions and how she responds to them. Having a dog has changed our lives in the very best of ways and seeing her adorable face is pure joy. It’s not just us who loves our pooch, everyone who meets Winter falls in love! I have to laugh at how attached my mom has become to Winter. She lives four hours away and when we go home to visit she cries when we leave, the tears used to be about us, but I’m convinced they are now falling for our dog! But, that’s what dogs do they make you fall in love in the purest and sweetest ways.
That’s why I’m excited to see a move that applauds our best friend! What a fantastic way to celebrate our pooches and be reminded of all the joy they bring into our lives than to see #DogDays!
I’m so disenchanted with television lately, especially with so much ongoing vitriol, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that CBS has a new uplifting drama premiering, Sunday, September 30th, 8PM-9PM. This is a clever drama using the social media platform in a way that is humorous, encouraging and appears to be worth watching!
“God Friended Me,” is about Miles Finer (Brandon Micheal Hall) an intelligent, optimistic, atheist. This puts him at odds with his father, Reverend Arthur Finer (Joe Morton), who is stung by his son’s strong rejection of his faith. Miles hosts a podcast where he’s free to speak his mind, but that changes when he receives the ultimate friend request.
After repeated pokes by God, Miles’ curiosity takes over, and he accepts the request and follows the signs to Cara Bloom (Violet Beane), an online journalist. Brought together by the “God Account,” the two find themselves investigating God’s friend suggestions and inadvertently helping others in need. Joining them on their journey are Miles’s sister, Ali (Javica Leslie) and his best friend, Rakesh (Suraj Sharma). Miles is determined to get to the bottom of what he believes is an elaborate hoax, but in the process, this friend request may change his life forever!
Take a peek I think you’ll be looking forward to September on CBS!

I’ve grown accustomed as a single mom to being asked the questions, “Do you date?” Well, the answer is no I do not. But, it isn’t because I don’t believe in love. Quite the contrary! I absolutely believe in love and know that falling in love can happen on any given day. But, I also know that love comes in many forms and my greatest love is my daughter Anya. I always tell single moms that while they are waiting for the love of their life remember there is an abundance of love to experience in the meantime. What greater love is there than the love of your child? The time I spend with my daughter is precious and I try to find ways to create memories that will reside in our heart and mind.
Here are five ways how I spend the time with the love of my life:
Traveling! We are road trip girls! Our best memories have been when we spontaneously hit the road with a couple bags, some snacks, and the radio blasting. Just recently we spent the week before Christmas in the Bahamas and had a wonderful and memorable time!
Long Walks: Our best conversations happen when we’re taking long walks. In our busy world, our walks have become a way for us to unwind, talk about our day and get some fresh air together.
Cooking: I’ve been cooking with Anya ever since she was a wee little one and it’s always a fun way to connect and do one thing we both love…eat!
Throw a Party! We love a good party in this house. Planning, prepping and decorating is a fun way for us to share our creativity, have a lot of laughs and it allows me to better get to know my daughter’s friends.
Good Old Cuddling! Nothing beats cuddling up with my kid. She’s 11 and growing like a weed so any cuddling I can get in I’m on it!
Okay, with all this being said, I’m still a sucker for unrequited love and I’m always up for a good romance! So, if you’re looking for a romantic story that warms your heart, don’t miss Forever My Girl released in theaters on January 19’th.
Forever My Girl tells the story of music super-star Liam Page (Alex Roe) who left his bride, Josie (Jessica Rothe), at the altar choosing fame and fortune instead. However, Liam never got over Josie, his one true love, nor did he ever forget his Southern roots in the small community where he was born and raised. When he unexpectedly returns to his hometown for the funeral of his high school best friend, Liam is suddenly faced with the consequences of all that he left behind. Forever My Girl is an uplifting romantic film about second chances.
Don’t miss this heartwarming story about A.A. Milne, an author, and veteran of The Great War suffering from PTSD who was inspired by his son to create the delightful stories of Winnie the Pooh and the characters who have come to reside on our bookshelves that we’ve read over and over again.
The film is being released tomorrow, Friday, October 13th nationwide! Take the kids to see what is sure to be a treat! Just take a look at the clip provided by Grace Hill Media and you will definitely want to get in movie line for the popcorn and snacks!
This is one movie that I can’t wait to take my daughter to see, especially after seeing the original stuffed animals on display in the children’s section at the New York Public Library this past summer! Just take a look at how lovely they are! Now, how can’t you want to see what inspired the story behind these adorable treasures!
Take the Kids to See, “A Dog’s Purpose,” on January 27th!
It’s amazing how dogs have an ability to love you unconditionally. I had no plans on getting a pup, matter of fact I was completely against adding another responsibility to my already overflowing plate. But, after some coercing for years from my daughter, I ended up making one of the best decisions of my life… our dog Winter! Winter an adorable Shorkie has stolen my heart and has made our family complete. I can’t imagine her not cuddling up to me every day. Winter is the first one to greet me at the door, she’s loyal, fun, and is the sweetest addition to our life. We had no idea what we were missing before her little paws trotted into our life. Look at this face!
I’m so excited about the January 27th release of “A Dog’s Purpose.” A heartwarming movie the whole family can enjoy and a sweet tribute to the pets that add love to our families. Told from the perspective of “everybody’s best friend” the film highlights the importance of familial bonds, and the unconditional love we have for our best friends.
One of the coolest things about, “A Dog’s Purpose, ” is their partnership with the non-profit Best Friends Animal Society, and photos of dogs available for adoption. You can also add your dog to the website! Check out the trailer below and mark your calendars for this touching film. Oh and go give your pup an extra hug!
With THE CONJURING 2 in theaters this Friday, it’s only natural to think about scary movies. For some of us, the thoughts are about avoiding them at all costs, but for others there’s excitement at thinking about getting a good scare from our theater seats.
But what about our kids? Especially at younger ages, they can be truly disturbed if they happen to see something onscreen that frightens them. It may not even be a well-made supernatural horror film like THE CONJURING 2 – certainly not for pre-teens – but could be something they see in one of their favorite cartoons that raises fears.
What can you do as a parent when this happens to your son or daughter? Here are a few tips from the experts at Focus on the Family:
The first thing you need to do is sit down with your child and give them the chance to discuss the film openly. Ask them what they saw, what they thought about it, and how it made them feel. Whatever you do, don’t make light of their fears or dismiss their feelings as silly or immature.
Once their emotions have been aired, assure your son or daughter that this was only a story, just like the imaginary tales they may have seen in picture story books. Bad things weren’t happening to real people – they were actors playing a pretend game, like they and their friends do.
Reassure your child that you, as their parent, are dedicated to protecting them. Let them know that it is one of your most important jobs – ensuring they feel safe and are safe. Reinforce that message with plenty of hugs.
If you are a Christian family, you can explain that God has promised to be with them at all times, even in the midst of danger. Open up the Bible and show them the passages where God promises never to leave us or forsake us (Genesis 28:15; Deuteronomy 31:6, 8; Joshua 1:5; Hebrews 13:5). Pray with them about the scary movie and their fears, and encourage them to pray on their own when they become frightened at night. If it seems appropriate, you can also practice some coping techniques with them, like deep breathing relaxation exercises or visualizing a happy place.
One last thought: it is definitely not a good idea for you to sleep in your child’s room or to let them sleep in your bed. That will only reinforce the behavior you’re trying to eliminate, encouraging them to act helpless and dependent. So whatever happens, make it clear that you will not be sleeping with them. Instead, find some other way to make them feel secure, like turning on a nightlight for a while or letting them take a special stuffed animal to bed.
Come to think of it, if you go see THE CONJURING 2 and you’re still a little scared even after the credits roll, feel free to take your favorite stuffed animal to bed with you, too.
The weekend has arrived! If you’re experiencing a wet weekend like we are it may be a perfect time for a movie marathon. If you have Netflixyou may want to check out these movies in the Faith and Spirituality section that are kid friendly and have wonderful messages of hope, love and faith!
