Morning Walk Musings…

I try to take a daily morning walk for about an hour after I drop Anya off at school. This hour has become a precious part of my day. During my walk I listen to inspirational podcasts, pray, get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. It’s incredible the beauty that surrounds us and what it triggers inside of us. Today, I was walking and noticed how the trees are beginning to change and the leaves are quickly falling.  It made me think about how quickly the season is changing and how the seasons of our own life are continually evolving. While walking, I came across  a leaf on the street. Its colors were lovely but it was curved up. I haven’t seen many leaves with fall colors seeping through, so I thought I’d take a picture.  I was about to  flatten it out, and then I thought, why am I trying to force this leaf to change its shape. But, isn’t that what we do naturally?

When there are curves in our life  we try to bend everything back to the way we want it as soon as possible. Often times we become restless in the season we are in, unable to allow it to take its natural course . Today’s leaf reminded me that in every season there is imperfect beauty, whether it is a season of difficulty or joy.  Just as the leaf was released we too are released in our own different seasons if we are patient enough.

A Healthy Me Update

Okay, so I’m really bad with consistency! I was walking every day and really logging in the miles than old man winter cam with a vengeance and this gal can’t hang in frigid weather, so I hung up my sneakers. But, I’m tired of not working out and I don’t want the weather to determine whether or not I get fit. So, I joined a gym close to Anya’s school for $10 a month and even I can afford that! So I went today and yesterday and hope to give you an update every week. My goal is to lose 20 pounds by April and keep it off. Here’s my progress today!

3rd Date In A Row.. Could This Be Getting Serious?

I made it to the gym!! 3rd day in a row!! I’m a bit sore, but I feel good and I’m glad I’m back. I remembered how good it feels to push my body. I did an hour on the treadmill and hit 4 miles and burned 800 calories! Not bad for someone who hadn’t been to the gym in a minute. So, below is my obligatory picture 🙂

Food Intake:
Breakfast– Coffee, wheat toast with peanut butter and strawberries and grapes

Lunch– Turkey breast sandwich on wheat, strawberries and grapes, yogurt
Snack – Cheese and spinach crackers
Late Snack –Protein bar
Dinner– Salad and a small pesto salad

I Kept My Date…

So I kept my date at the gym today, this morning none the less! So I did a hundred crunches and an hour on the treadmill. Will do some other resistance and weight exercises later, had to get to work.

Breakfast-a slice of wheat bread with peanut butter, grapes and strawberries and of course coffee!
Snack- Special K Bar
Lunch-salad with some left over lean steak from last night with chickpeas, tomatoes, and a little mozzarella
Dinner-Salsa Chicken and some veggies probably corn and salad

The Gym and I Got Back Together Again..Let’s See If I Stay Faitful

Today’s Progress- Hour on Treadmill

Oh the gym and I have one of those off and on again relationships. I’m the one always jumping ship! I was doing pretty good awhile back and was actually seeing a difference and then I don’t know what happened…well I do, I just stopped. I was on the ball and then it stopped rolling. I moved which was ALOT, got a new job, and a ton of other stuff but it really is just me procrastinating. So, I went back tonight and it was good. I’m not fool enough to make a pledge of going to the gym 5x a week, but I will say I’m going to make an intentional effort to workout and eat better. So wish me luck…again,.

A Healthier Me Update! Wow it’s been long!

Sorry everyone!!! Life has been soooooo busy! My baby girl turned 7 so all kind of festivities pursued! But, I have been staying on track. I’ve been hitting the gym at least 3 times a week and sometimes more than that. I jump on the treadmill and ride that for an hour with a 15% incline and usually burn about 800 calories and I do strength training every other day and crunches every night. I’ve been eating lots of fish, veggies and fruit. It really makes a difference. I lost about 7 pounds which isn’t too bad, I know I am gaining muscle and I feel stronger and my clothes are fitting better. I need to take some before and after pictures, I’m just not there yet. So I went from about 153 to 145 in about 4 weeks. I still have a ways to go but I’m confident I’ll get there! Eating health and exercising puts me in a great physical and mental state. I have learned to be gentle with myself, because it had seemed that I was losing weight pretty quickly and I realized alot of that was water weight.. BOO! But, now I’m seeing the pounds drop steadily ant that is a motivator along with the fact that I feel better. Here are a few things I’m learning:

1. Don’t compare yourself to others! Remember the perfect ponytail girl with the beautifully sculpted thighs that made me feel like a sweaty wart hog! Well, she didn’t make me feel anyway I made myself feel like that because I was comparing myself to a girl who is built completely differently from me and is probably a good 15 years younger than me. God made me to be me not the pony tail girl and I need to find contentment in that and be the best me I can be!

2. Exercise Daily– Even if you are walking up and down your steps a few times, find a way to squeeze in exercise. Squat while you’re doing dishes or do crunches while watching television, get moving! Any little bit makes a difference.

3. Always Grab a Healthier Alternative– Find a healthy snack you love and then buy it in bulk! If you love almonds get enough to last and keep them at work, home and in your car. My go to is string cheese, grapes and almonds.

4. Don’t be a slave to the scale! I thought the scale was my motivator and in some ways it is, but it isn’t always an accurate way of measuring your weight loss. Make sure you weigh yourself at the same time every day and don’t forget to look at your measurements and take note of how you’re clothes are feeling. If the scale doesn’t give you the number you anticipated, it is okay! Don’t be too hard on yourself.

5. Buy Workout Clothes that make you feel good! I bought a pair of great workout pants from Macy’s with a gift certificate I have and new sneakers and it really does make a difference. I feel better as I work out and that is a motivator within itself. Wear clothes that make you feel good and are flattering.

6. Don’t be afraid to try new moves-I’m a treadmill girl and everything else seems like a waste of time, but if you don’t switch it up then your body gets used to doing the same thing and you won’t see the changes you are hoping for. Plus trying new things keeps you from getting bored.

These are just a few tips that seem to be working for me. What works for you?

A Health Me Day 7.. Trucking Along

So I may be posting these a day later because I’m doing a fast from the computer at night. I feel like I spend enough time during the day on the computer and the evening is for me and Anya with no distractions. So, today the weigh in is at 147.8! So I’m well on my way to 147 goal for Sunday, I’m kind of there right? This weekend I want to really get some good workouts in with a little more variety. I’m motivated more than ever, last Friday I was 150 and today I’m 147.8 I’m progressing and that’s what matters along with feeling healthier! Check back on updates for my workout!
