Advent Day 15 &16 Luke 2: 11-15

Luke 2:11-15

11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

Advent Day 15 Luke 2:8-10, “I Bring You Good News”

Luke 2:8-10

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”

Advent Scriptures Days 5-8

I’m way behind, mainly because my daughter is in the Nutcracker and life has been busy and exhausting. We are still reading our scriptures and celebrating though even with half closed eyes! I hope you are enjoying and reflecting on our greatest gift! Here are the scriptures we’ve read in the past days.

Advent Day 5

Micha 5:2

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
    from ancient times.”

Advent Day 6

Isaiah 7:14

” Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and  will call him Immanuel.”

Advent Day 7

Jeremiah 33:14-16

“‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.

“‘In those days and at that time
    I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
he will do what is just and right in the land.
In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will live in safety.
This is the name by which it will be called:
    The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’

Advent Day 8

Matthew 1:18-25

“This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”(which means “God with us”).

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.  But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Advent Day 4 Isaiah 61:1-3

Isaiah 61:1-3

he Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

Advent Day 3 Isaiah 40:9-11

Isaiah 40:9-11

You who bring good news to Zion,
go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good news to Jerusalem,[a]
lift up your voice with a shout,
lift it up, do not be afraid;
say to the towns of Judah,
    “Here is your God!”
10 See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power,
and he rules with a mighty arm.
See, his reward is with him,
    and his recompense accompanies him.
11 He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.

My Trader Joe’s Choice of the Week! Gingerbread Cake and Baking Mix!

During Christmas I really try to bake the majority of cookies, cakes and anything else from scratch. Mainly because I think it tastes better and Anya really enjoys adding all the ingredients together. But, I do like having a quick delicious go to alternative that can taste homemade without all the homemade work, especially if I end up having unexpected guest or I just need to save time. I found this Gingerbread Cake and Baking Mix at Trader Joes and decided to try it out. It is really good! You mix 4 ingredients… the mixture, 1 egg, water and vegetable oil and mix it by hand, then pour it into a pan. I baked it for about 35 minutes. It came out moist and flavorful! It is a little spicy like most gingerbread cakes or cookies so Anya probably won’t eat this as much, but it is perfect for friends with a cup of coffee and good conversation!

A Few Christmas Touches in Our Home!

Tis’ the season to be jolly! I love decorating for Christmas! It makes me cheerful and I love the coziness it brings in our home. I did some decorating and thought I’d share with you a few glimpses! We still have to pick out our tree, usually we do it right after Thanksgiving, but I was home and the past couple days were busy then it rained. So we still need to decorate our tree and put up our Christmas village. But, here are a few things we did…
