Matthew 7:6 ” Do not give the dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to the pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet and then turn and tear you to pieces.”
Do you know how special and unique you are? How important you are to God’s Kingdom? Do you look at your body as a temple? Do you honor your spiritual gifts? I hope you do. As children of Christ we are created in his divine image. Its easy to forget this when we get caught up in our physical appearance or into stinking thinking which leads to us devaluing ourselves. When we devalue ourselves it is easy to settle for anything and everything because we don’t think we’re worthy of anything better. We are sacred and God wants us to protect ourselves from those things or people in the world who will tear us down and lead us away from the narrow path.
When you decide to give yourself to others who will degrade, disrespect, or lead you into harms way you are throwing God’s precious gift to the dogs. I can recall a number of times ignoring my better judgement and giving into things or people that weren’t good company and by good company I mean people or things that build you up instead of tearing you down or enticing you to go against God’s word. I can tell you my spirit was torn apart and trampled on and the recovery process was a slow and painful one.
Discernment is an integral part of a Christian’s life. We have to be able to discern between those who will edify us and those who will tear us to bits. We have to value and love ourself enough to remove ourselves from these situations. How you view yourself will determine what you’ll tolerate. If you have a negative view of yourself and believe you aren’t worth much you’ll tolerate anything which ultimately leads to your destruction on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level. I’m always saddened by the number of women I meet who are broken down by who they allowed inside their life. I think by nature we’re nurturing and we like to please, unfortunately this gift we have can fall into the wrong hands and can be used against us. If you perceive yourself as a unique creation of God who has a specific purpose the company you keep will reflect this.
One definition of pearls in Websters Dictionary is, “one that is very choice or precious.” That is you! You are a precious gem and God choose you! My sisters never throw your precious pearls to the pigs. Keep them guarded by the protection of God, use discernment and be wise about the company you’re surrounded by, and love yourself unconditionally as a child of Christ.
